New Zealand Companion Animal
Register (NZCAR)
Microchipping then registering your animal is an important part of responsible ownership. The NZCAR helps lost pets get home to their worried families. The NZCAR was created by Companion Animals New Zealand and has registered over 1.3 million animals.

In addition to the NZCAR, we also own the very popular LostPet service and associated social media account (LostPet.co.nz).

Interested in BECOMING AN APPROVED microchip IMPLANTER?
The criteria for individuals wishing to apply for NZCAR implanter status are:
1. A veterinary clinic or a qualified veterinarian.
2. A diploma (or higher) qualified veterinary nurse.
3. An implanter who has completed a recognised microchipping course.*
4. An organisation whose member of staff meets the above criteria.
If you meet one of the above criteria, then please apply directly to NZCAR for implanter status. Application forms and details here.
If you don’t qualify as one of the above, CANZ will consider approving an implanter application upon written recommendation by a veterinarian, who will certify the implanter's proficiency at the time of a demonstration for cats, dogs and rabbits. Learn more about this here.
*At this time there are no approved tertiary ‘courses’ for microchip certification.
