2024 has been an incredible year for Companion Animals NZ, filled with impactful initiatives, milestones, and contributions toward improving animal welfare across New Zealand.
From engaging conferences and community events to vital research and advocacy efforts, we’ve worked hard to ensure that every companion animal can lead a “Good Life.” Here’s a look back at some of the key achievements that were made possible thanks to our dedicated team, supporters, and partners.
We held two successful conferences, with more than 500 participants in total discussing positive animal welfare
We recognised eight incredible people for their contribution to animal welfare as part of our Assisi Awards and Te Tohu Maimoa
We helped animals and guardians:
9,708 ‘lost’ LostPet listings
14,677 ‘found’ LostPet listings
19,000 support queries handled by our NZCAR team
We raised more than $15,000 from incredible supporters as part of Giving Tuesday, which will go towards desexing and microchipping grants
We have 11 research projects underway to help improve animal welfare outcomes
More than 3,500 people responded to our survey callout in our welfare newsletter, contributing to information about what a ‘Good Life’ means for their pets
We submitted on five bylaws and long-term plans relating to local and regional councils discussion desexing, microchipping and registration of cats
We held 5 webinars as part of our ‘Misbehaviour or Misunderstood’ series with more than 9,700 views on our videos
We organised four EquiChip events in Taupō, Cambridge, Auckland and Wellington - microchipping 117 horses – AND we reached 1000 horses registered on the NZ Companion Animal Register
As we reflect on these successes, we are filled with gratitude for everyone who contributed to making 2024 such a meaningful year. Together, we’ve made significant strides in animal welfare, and we’re excited about the opportunities and challenges ahead in 2025.
With your continued support, we’ll keep driving positive change for animals and their guardians across New Zealand. Thank you for being part of this journey.
